Fullas taking action for youth mental health
Auckland
Feelings of HELPlessness and HOPElessness are a sad reality for too many of our rangatahi (youth) facing mental health challenges. The heart break and despair a parent feels watching their child go through this is devastating. The youth suicide and self harm statistics here in New Zealand show that we're just not doing enough to support our young people and their whānau through these challenges.
Gumboot Friday is all about providing HELP and HOPE in the way of free and timely professional counselling for rangatahi across Aotearoa. So, on November 4th (Gumboot Friday), this group of good looking, high performance athletes are jumping on our bikes and riding 50km from down town Auckland to Parakai to help raise much needed funds and awareness for the cause.
"If nothing changes, nothing changes"
You've made a difference 14 November 2022
A 50km bike ride is nothing really for some people but for a bunch of unfit fullas like us it was definitely a challenge. At the end of the day though the bike ride was simply a means for us to help draw attention to a greater cause.
The $6,068 raised for I AM HOPE is well beyond what we hoped for at the start. This represents approx 45 free counseling sessions! That's 45 opportunities for young people to talk through their problems, fears and anxieties with a trained professional. 45 opportunities to help prevent self-harm. So, from all of us fullas, just a massive thank you for your aroha and support! Nothing changes without people like you.
