Having babies isn't all smiles and cuddles
Getting pregnant
Being pregnant and giving birth
Having a newborn
These times generate some of the strongest emotions we experience in a lifetime. Whether a new mother or a seasoned professional parent. The up-sides and down-sides are always there, in differing proportions, through every stage.
At the top end of the scale: Elation, gratitude, awe, hope, excitement, a belief in miracles, joy, satisfaction, inner peace and a sense love like never before.
At the bottom of the scale: Concern, self-doubt, guilt, horror, anxiety, loneliness, terror, disgust, disappointment, grief, hopelessness.
All of these are real and valid and normal and yet, our society and systems are not fully equipped to support all ends of the spectrum. We are okay with the top end! The bottom end needs work.
Lettie and Emma are taking part in an 11k run on 1st November to raise funds for the charity PADA.nz. Their mission: To eliminate the stigma around perinatal mental health in New Zealand by championing awareness and facilitating best practice in perinatal mental health.
As mothers of young children, we have experienced (and continue to experience!) the highs and lows of parenting. We would love for our run to make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling with the dark-side of becoming a parent.
We feel like this is a hugely worthwhile cause that is close to our hearts
Not long now! 30 October 2020
A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has sponsored us. It’s been so lovely to hear stories from people about why this cause is close to their hearts.
Emma and I went to ‘check-in’ for the run today. This involved trekking into the city with 2 littlies but we’re all set!
