As many of you know, Joy has had a long battle with her health, involving countless trips to ED and hospital. The past two years have been especially difficult with Joy spending around 18 months barely able to eat and struggling to get through everyday life.

Unfortunately, the public health system has let Joy down time and time again leaving her with little choice but to seek private healthcare outside Nelson. Further investigations have identified MALS (Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome) and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), helping explain why she has been so unwell. She now needs further testing, with surgery potentially required.

Getting answers has been a huge step, but accessing the right specialists and treatment comes at an enormous financial cost. Joy and Jed are now facing thousands of dollars in medical bills, specialist appointments, scans and private rehabilitation. With multiple trips to Auckland looking likely, flights and accommodation for them both are adding significantly to the cost, with potential surgery bringing even more financial uncertainty.
