Several great musical acts come together to help end homelessness – supporting the work of DCM with those who need it most. And you can help too, by buying tickets to see Laura Collins & the Back Porch Blues Band, one man musical sensation Seamus Johnson, the one and only Dr Blue with Vicky Weeds, esoteric folk songwriter Beans and toe tapping band Two Times.

It's the official wrap up to the Walk a Mile Challenge for 2023.

There will also be a charity art auction at the event, run by a top auctioneer from Dunbar Sloane.

  • Day 22

      9 November 2023

It's a nice day for a Welly walk, and today is one of my regular routes from DCM down to TSB Bank Arena and back. Here I am walking past the Rowing Club and Te Wharewaka o Pōneke where we had a great Matariki hāngī with Mayor Tory Whanau. Approx. 120 people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness had an opportunity to enjoy a very special occasion - not to mention a great feed. Te Wharewaka hāngī is a good time!

  • Day 14

      30 October 2023

It is day 14 of my efforts to Walk a Mile a day to help end homelessness. Today I'm at Whareroa Farm and am reminded that for many of the people we work with at DCM, getting out of town to enjoy a walk like this is either not a priority, or not a reality. When you are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, you probably won't have access to a car (unless you are forced to sleep in one), let alone money for petrol, or the time to enjoy something for yourself.

So, I'm walking today for the most marginalised, and to raise money for DCM. DCM has a proven track record of changing lives through practical programmes that really work. We're a small organisation working on some of the biggest problems facing Wellington.

You can get behind this cause too. You can donate to my walk, or you can walk too.

    Ngā mihi!

Day 3 (hey, they don't have to be consecutive days!) and I've walked from DCM to TSB Bank Arena - which is exactly 800m - and back again, for a 1 mile total today. It is cold and windy out there, but here is something easy we can all do for this important cause.

  • Day 1

      13 October 2023

Day 1 and I have walked approx. 2.6km (so, more than a mile!) from Courtenay Place to Massey University (for a class), and back again in my old pair of Allbirds. Not the nicest day for it but I'm walking for a great cause!
