Help Me Honour Women Runners & Support Women's Safety

I'm running my first marathon to honour 115 women who lost their lives while out running, and raising funds for Shine NZ.

Hawke's Bay

Hi, I’m Nicole Pendreigh, a 23-year-old runner from Hawke’s Bay. This year, I’m training for my first-ever marathon in Taupō on August 2nd—a challenge I was once told I’d never be able to do after a serious injury.

Running has become a source of strength and healing for me. But for many women, it’s also a source of fear. Tragically, 115 women around the world have been murdered while out running. They went for a run because they loved it—and never came home.

I will be dedicating my marathon to these women. I’ll be wearing a custom top with all 115 names, carrying their memory every step of the way.

I'm also raising funds for an incredible organisation:

💛 Shine NZ – Supporting people affected by domestic violence and working to make New Zealand safer for everyone.

How you can help:

Donate – Every dollar goes toward supporting women’s safety through Shine NZ.

Share – Spread this message far and wide to help create awareness.

Support – Stand behind tools and causes that empower and protect women, like

🟡 GetHomeSafe, a NZ-made personal safety app for solo runners and workers

🟡 Go Guarded NZ, offering self-defence tools designed specifically for women.

This run is about more than just crossing the finish line. It’s about honoring the lives of women lost and working toward a future where every woman can run freely and safely.

Thank you so much for your support. 💛

Marathon completed ✔️   2 August 2025

Hi everyone,

Today was the day of my marathon!!

Despite a chest infection, knee injury, and many blisters…. I didn’t give up and made it across the finish line.

I officially completed the marathon in 4 hours 17 minutes. Thank you to everyone who donated. It means a lot.

I am very grateful, and super happy that conversations are happening about this big issue. I look to continue to try improve women’s safety while exercising/running.

You are an amazing young wahine! As a fellow runner, I have had my own examples of scary moments out running so well done on getting the message out about the 115 woman who never made it home from their run. Awesome mahi from you to help them cross that line, blisters, knee injury and chest infection to boot!
