A tree came to me in my dreams and told me that if I run the Motatapu marathon climate change will be solved. So, that’s what I’m doing.
Otago
After a recent snowless trip to Japan among other reasons such as the record breaking Australian bushfires and the warmest January ever recorded just to name a few, oh and maybe even Brexit (because that’s shit too). I’ve decided to raise money for Protect Our Winters NZ by doing the Motatapu Marathon.
It’s a 41km off-road slog with 1000m of climbing and obviously sounds really really, fun?
POW NZ is a charity working towards facilitating climate conversation with local communities/councils/governments while pushing for policy and legislative change.
They are active within communities all over New Zealand creating awareness of and promoting solutions to one of the most pressing issues of our time.
Being a skier I naturally want to Protect Our Winters for my own selfish reasons of being able to enjoy the mountains for years to come.
But, this is not just about saving the snow.
The climate crisis is something that impacts us all, but typically it will affect the poorest of us the most. It is predicted to put more people into poverty, cause mass migrations, dramatically increase the severity of floods, hurricanes, tornados, wild fires and will continue to accelerate the destruction of our plant and animal species.
It can often seem that the solutions to climate change are so out of our control that there’s no point trying.
This is not the case - besides from being conscious to reduce our carbon footprint, collectively we can support charities such as Protect Our Winters, Extinction Rebellion and Green Peace etc that create awareness of issues and influence governments and corporations to make the right decisions.
We can stop this.
Help me save our wild places and Protect Our Winters.
(I also need extreme moral support for this marathon so anything that can be donated is MASSIVELY appreciated!)
