Participating in Fun Run FundRaise for Asians
Canterbury
I'm running 10k for a local charitable trust: Asian Community Transformation Trust.
I've always been passionate to see Asian communities thrive in New Zealand.
I grew up as an immigrant in this beautiful country, but it was all that amazing on the inside.
I was bullied, I don't feel belonged as a Chinese or a Kiwi, I was confused about my identity.
In 2009, I decided to give up becoming a Fire Engineer and became a youth worker.
Since then, I've seen young people thrive in a community they can belong in, become confident as they grow skills that can impact others positively, and start to embrace their identity as Asian Kiwis.
I have also seen how broken/struggling families can damage a young person.
I have heard the challenges immigrant families face and their devastating impact on marriages.
I have been pained by the tragic passing of young people.
And I want to be part of the change.
Besides my work/career in this space, I want to also raise even more awareness by running 10k and sharing my stories on my social media.
I want to see Asian immigrants supported and empowered to raise healthy, contributing next generations that will build up Aotearoa together.
Would you support this cause?
Asian immigrants are missing out on services in NZ that enables well-being due to language and cultural barriers - we want to change that!
