Help teenagers struggling with Period Poverty - through MyCup Period Pack donations

Help raise money for MyCup Period Pack donations to secondary schools in Tauranga, a gift to young women experiencing period poverty.

Bay of Plenty

I’m fundraising for period poverty in Tauranga your donations will go directly to MyCup™ who will donate teenage period packs to Otumoetai College, Mount College, Papamoa College and a number of other secondary schools around the Bay.

Young NZ women are missing school every 28 days during the school terms due to not having any sanitary items when they have their period. This has a significant impact on their education, equality and basic human dignity. Who can blame them, if I was going to possibly end up in an embarrassing situation I know I would have stayed home too. These girls must feel helpless especially in large low income families where food, shelter and even petrol will be prioritised over sanitary items.

In conjunction with MyCup™ I’m fundraising to purchase at least 50 Teenage Period Packs which will be donated directly to the schools. I’m aiming for 50 but I’d really love to see us try and help 100 or even 500 young women with our efforts. I’m going to donate $200 towards the Teenage Period Packs to get the ball rolling, WILL YOU HELP ME BY DONATING TOO?

MyCup™ is a NZ company with a social mission and our funding will see their Period Packs help some young women who are in a situation where they are ALONE. This issue is not an illness, there is no foundation or society or charity specifically helping a girl with period poverty every month so initiatives like this are trying to raise awareness and help find solutions.

Other considerations:

Our society use to be about reuse when resources were scarce, I even remember my grandmother washing her plastic bags so she could reuse them. We’ve become this throwaway, convenience based, disposable society – our lifestyles are polluting the EARTH and it's not sustainable. We need to move to solutions like menstrual cups or reusable feminine pads which are better for PEOPLE and better for the PLANET.

Period cost estimate:

1. MyCup™ teen menstrual cup is $35 with a life of 10+ years, add on Milton sterilising tablets $3.00 per year, the 10-year cost is $65.00

2. 12 Pack of Tampons approximately $4.00* per month. $48.00 per year, the 10-year cost is $480.00

3. 12 Pack of Pads approximately $3.50* per month. $42.00 per year, the 10-year cost is $420.00

*assumes items are on special, number of tampons/pads estimated per month is a rough guideline.

Period Pack contains:

1 x Teen Menstrual Cup

1 x Reusable Cloth Pad

1 x Reusable Panty Liner

1 x Strip of 5 Milton sterilizing tabs

1 x Instructions on use
