Having endured mastectomy,25 radiotherapy sessions,45 doses of chemotherapy and 30 of Herceptin, Jo deserves to live-but your help is needed

I am lucky because my very dear friend is Jo Bhagat. I am also lucky because when I got Breast Cancer it was of a common type and after surgery and treatment I lived life well for five years. Then the cancer metastasised in my bones but I am still lucky. Free treatment was available and I am currently in remission and making the most of everyday. Life is precious and I enjoy it. I want my friend to have the same chance at life but, unfortunately, Jo is not lucky. She has a very rare form of breast cancer. She has had a radical mastectomy, endured 25 sessions of radiotherapy, 45 treatments of chemotherapy and 30 sessions of Herceptin. Her body is saturated with chemicals and yet she still smiles at the world and believes that to complain only makes others sad. Jo is truly an amazing person. She now lives on a cocktail of medications along with many unpleasant side effects. Thankfully her cancer has not yet metastasised. There can be no more chemotherapy but there is a drug - KADCYLA (T-DM1) - that is extremely effective on her rare type of cancer. Because of its rarity, the drug is not government funded. Jo's only hope is to raise the money herself. But an excess of NZ 100,000.00 is a big ask. Her loving husband and son, along with family and friends, have already raised a considerable amount. We are all desperate to get her treatment started and need to make a final push to reach the target. Please understand Jo's predicament and place a donation towards her treatment. Every little bit mounts up so every donation will be gratefully received however small. Thank you.
I am Barbara McNaught. I have turned to "Give A Little" in the desperate hope that my friend will get a chance to live life.
Jo and I met at our Breast Cancer Support Group. She is an intelligent, quiet, dignified lady. Treatments permitting, we started to walk daily. We now call it "Talk and Walk". Our exchange of views have enriched both our lives. NZ is home to Jo and she has become a real Kiwi. We come from two different countries, two different cultures, two different religions but we are bonded by one wonderful friendship and cancer. I value Jo's friendship. We both share the same whacky sense of humour and I have come to believe that laughter really is the best medicine, and it's free. Wherever our journey takes us we are in this together, I pray our journey is a long one. It could be.
