Across the Bridge Runners Y2

  • Rainy Marathon Day

The 11k marathon mission has been completed in the rain joined together with 14,000 runners.

Before the running day, no good news from the forecast, an awful wet day for Auckland Marathon.

    Cancel? postpone? or go ahead?

Sunday morning I put shoes on, in a water-resistant vest hopped onto a fully packed chartered bus to the Smales Farm. A few minutes after jogging, I took off the vest because of the mugginess.

The rain continued. I could feel my shirt, cap, leggings, socks and shoes gradually became damp.

Walking in the rain is not new to me, had a few times tramping in the bush stricken by the unpredicted weather.

The moving procession on the Bridge showed large patches of dark colour coming from raincoats, jackets, ponchos even umbrellas.

The rain did not take any break. I was absolutely soaked, but I would like to jog in the rain rather than on a burning hot sunny day, the previous Auckland Marathon in February was not enjoyable, blazing hot.

I am pleased with my second attempt at Auckland Marathon. Its unity, caringness and team spirit enlighten me a lot.

And I did it my way.

Thanks to all the people to make the Marathon happen, and all the people who support me and the team in donations or going for me and St John.

This is not her first Marathon, not long ago, Naisi completed a 10k run in Hawkes Bay.

Bumped into Naisi Chen at the Cloud while checking in. Earlier this year I spoke to her briefly of running to support St John, she said YES, then it went to a standstill due to my oversight, until today Naisi answered YES without slightest hesitation to my request.

So, I have a new team member.

Forgot to take a self of us.

  • Counting down to Marathon Day

Checked in at the Cloud to get my bib, LLL 32020. By train back to Panmure Station where I parked my car, I decided to have a run around Mt Wellington - Maungarei. Feeling so good.

The forecast on Sunday is not looking good. I had a few bush walks in the consistent rain for hours and soaked, perhaps running in the rain is pretty much similar.

  • Kit Wong is unable to run this year

      25 October 2022

Our prominent runner Mr Kit Wong apologized for no longer being able to run for St John this year after catching Covid recently.

Kit has been running to fundraise for St John for the past few years and raised tens of thousands of dollars. In late 2021 he had heart surgery, but he still participated in the postponed Marathon in February 2022.

I wish Kit a speedy recovery and run with him next year.
