Well, here I am! Enduro day. 10 hours to the 130am start.
There are 47 of us made enough to do 2 laps. That’s confronting
Late nights at Woodhill... a big day at the redwoods... overnighting in the car at Rotorua... snowboarding in the south island, school holidays, sickness, it's all be going on in the last month.
100km mtb'ing is going to be hard. I reckon 10-12 hours hard. Exhausted like never before hard. But worth it to raise from $$ for I Am Hope and nowhere near as hard as what some of their beneficiaries are living.
Off to Rotorua for a 7 hour training session this sunday. Bring it OOONNNN.
I got my (2nd hand) stealth rocket mtb, had my first forest rides in about 14 years (first was a glorious wednesday night at woodhill, 2nd was a super fun sunday with Arron), did a bunch of indoor training, and started to realise what 3000m of climbing over 100km of trails actually feels like - likely to be a 10+ mountain biking MARATHON at this rate!
Oh and I found out I'm fueling completely wrong and would have crashed hard if I went in with the food and drink I planned to have.
There have been hard moments, but the motivation has been got me through it.
One big change has been banning watching TV while pedaling doors. Hard to do, but great benefits giving my mind space to whirl.
Exciting day, exciting week!
1. Ordered my custom "IAmHope" lycra from Tineli for the events
2. Picked up my "new" refurbed mountain bike from Dean the amazing
3. Cracked $1k funds raised
4. Have definitely shaken the illness and training has really started to deliver some gains
What a bunch of amazingness to be stoked on!
Still taking names and messages - I'l be writing them on my shirt by hand once I get it.
3 whole weeks of lost training thanks to some overly friendly viruses locking down my cardio!
You do not want to see this on your Garmin stats.
Luckily I’ve got a bunch of mental wellness tools in my bag.
Finally back to training tmrw!!!
After my saturday ride, Coach Garmin said "oi! kahn! nooooo! 4 days recovery". So I had a couple of rest days, back on the bike tmrw.
Amazing generosity team! Thank
You! Already more than 10% of the way to rooster time
Amazing dawn training today. Plenty of others filling their cups with the sunrise too ❤️
Winter's dark, it's cold, but it's not so hard to get up for a training ride when the dawn's like this. Great way to lift the spirits, let your brain sift through all the noise, and keep the fitness up.
