I am running the Port Hills 50k race to raise money and awareness for AphasiaNZ
Canterbury
On the 30th of January I will be running the 50k option in the inaugural Port Hills Ultra race and I would like to take this opportunity to raise money and awareness for a massively under funded and under represented charity - AphasiaNZ
Aphasia is a condition (most commonly caused by a stroke) where the brain loses the ability speak or understand spoken work or written language, but does not affect the persons intelligence - leaving them needing to learn how to read, write and speak again
Approximately 17,000 New Zealanders currently suffer from post stroke Aphasia, but there is no guaranteed funding or support for the charity
My Uncle Tony was diagnosed with Aphasia after suffering a stroke. My aunty and cousins lost the husband and dad that they had known before the stroke, but Aphasia NZ and its community showed (and continue to show) amazing support
Please help me to put AphasiaNZ on the map
My uncle was diagnosed with Aphasia back in 2015
When fundraising for Auckland marathon run I noticed Aphasia NZ was not a recognized charity
