  • Thank you

      18 December 2022

1 week since the race last weekend and the page has now closed.

I want to say a big thank you to every single person for supporting me and helping ensure better lives for our kids.

As a soon to be parent, it means so much to know that my own kids will have the ability to access free counselling through I Am Hope if they need it!

Also, I’ve got some ideas about continued community support for I Am Hope / Gumboot Friday so stay tuned for that!

    Thanks so much,

    Keegan

  • 5 DAYS OUT

      5 December 2022

Well, we are currently 5 days away from toeing the line and getting in the thick of the big dance.

Training has being going really well, I feel ready and I've got a couple of new bike bits as well!

So far, the weather looks average with a chance of rain but hopefully it holds off and we can have some nice conditions to swim, bike & run in.

We have raised $10,300 for I Am Hope so far and have a couple more days to pump those numbers up!!!

Thank you to everyone who has donated, supported & shared my posts to help me get the message out there and help the kids of NZ, I truly appreciate it

  • A NEW GOAL

      18 November 2022

Since hitting the original goal of $10,000 I've done some thinking about increasing the goal.

I have decided to up the goal to $12,800, the equivalent to 100 free counselling sessions! As race day is only 3 weeks away I have a huge amount of money to raise in that time. So please, if you know of anyone or other ideas on how I can achieve this, I want to hear it!

    Thanks,

    Keegan

  • WE"VE DONE IT!!

      14 November 2022

Wow, I am speechless and quite honestly, I’m emotional, when I first set out to raise $10,000 I had no idea how it was even fathomable, I had never raised so much money before and knew it was going to be just as hard as the training!

I’m so thankful for every single person, business, friend, family member & stranger who has supported me on this crazy journey!

Thank you so much for helping me try to make the world a better place.

4 weeks until race day, time to re-evaluate and focus!

    Cheers,

    Keegan

  • Less than 6 weeks to go!

      1 November 2022

Well, less than 6 weeks until the big dance.... Honestly, I'm feeling pretty strong even though I had food poisoning last week and could hardly train. I feel the fittest I've ever been as well as feeling strong!

We have raised $8,720 so far leaving $1,280 left. I need to keep spreading the message and I need some help, if you could please share this around, tell your friends, families, work mates, everyone!

    Thanks so much!

    Keegan

  • Ironman Prep Season 2

      11 August 2022

As of this coming Monday 15th of August, Ironman prep season 2 will begin. We have so far raised $7,200 and we are closing in on our $10,000 goal for I Am Hope.

Over the past few months I've been working mainly on strength while maintaining a solid aerobic base to ensure I can go into this prep fresh, strong and willing to do everything I possibly can to perform.

I've created an instagram page where I will document my upcoming prep @ironhope.journey I'll be sharing training weeks, nutrition, how I'm feeling etc. so if you want to stay up to date then head over and give the page a follow!

    Thanks,

    Keegan

  • 'RACE DAY'

      28 March 2022
    Main image

After having had some time off after 'race day' to recover and reflect, I can quite easily say that this was the hardest challenge I have ever undertaken. I managed to finish with a time of 6:07:14 and it was definitely a fight. I was looking to get into the hole and suck through it and I got more than I bargained for.

    The Swim:

I started off well, got into a nice rhythm and everything was going according to plan. My goggles fogged up about 800m in so I spent the next 1.1k with minimal vision. Swim time: 44:17

    The Bike:

The bike also started off well, Chan rode with me the whole way so it was nice to have some company. Ideally I needed 1 more water bottle and more time in the saddle during training. With half an hour left I was starting to get an achy back & neck and it was getting warmer than I anticipated. Bike time: 3:23:34

    The Run:

This is where the challenge really began. It was hot, I was a bit dehydrated and getting tired. Nandia and Jonathon were with me most of the way and boy did I need some support. It was starting to get pretty difficult on my digestive system and keeping nutrition down wasn't very easy. There was cramp at 16k and a few quick stops to stretch along the way. Run time:1:48:34

After finishing there was a lot of cussing and swearing that I never want to do it again but since recovering and pulling the training back a bit I've realised that the fight is the best part. The stuff that makes you grow. The training is the journey, the race is the victory lap and knowing that I've helped make a difference is an unmatched feeling.

Thank you to everyone who has donated this far, without you there would be minimal difference made. Special thank you to my family and most importantly my fiance Carlee for putting up with these ideas I have and supporting me all the way! Now onto the event In December and that $10,000 mark. oh and maybe some other challenges along the way.

  • 2 DAYS OUT

      3 March 2022

Wow we're now 2 days out from the original date of the Ironman 70.3. This Saturday I'll be taking on the 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run here in Rotorua to acknowledge the original date! Should be a good training session and gauge of things that I need to improve going into the real event in December.

I wanted to say a Huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far along this journey as we've now hit the $6k mark! When I set the target of raising $10k I had no idea how I would even get close but here we are over half way and still going strong.

The support shown by each person who has donated, listened and shared my story is hugely appreciated by myself and everyone at I Am Hope because without this support they wouldn't be able to provide the service that they do.

Thanks so much! I'll be posting updates throughout saturday on my instagram page @keegan.mitchell and i'll be providing an update post 'event' so keep your eyes peeled for that one.

    Cheers,

    Keegan

  • Event Postponed!

      10 February 2022

This afternoon I got the news that the Ironman has been postponed due to the current restrictions in place. The race has been postponed until at least the 10th of December.

Pretty gutting but it is what it is, I'll still be taking on a challenge of some kind on March 5th but I haven't quite figured out what just yet so stay tuned!!

  • 4 weeks to go! (Hopefully)

      6 February 2022

Well, we are (hopefully) only 4 weeks out from race day.

I've just finished up my last recovery week before the next 2 peak weeks of big sessions and hard mahi. The chances of the race going ahead as planned on March 5th are getting slim but I'm trying to remain positive and stick to the plan.

I've already got a few ideas going in case the the race does get postponed so stay tuned for that! I've also had some big donations come in and we are closing in on $4.5k so thank you so much to every single person who has donated something this far!

I've honestly never felt so fit and ready for something and I cannot wait to get after it!

  • Update!

      1 November 2021

Hello everyone just a bit of a quick update and a chance for me to give a huge mihi to everyone who has donated so far! The support is hugely appreciated by myself and everyone at I Am Hope.

As for training, it's going well (I think) there is still heaps to learn but I'm getting there. I've been putting in 6.5-7hrs of triathlon specific training along with an additional 3hrs of strength training each week to help get ready to crush this 70.3!

I'm looking at creating a mock triathlon during training so keep your eyes peeled for that one. Thanks again!
