Running with inspiration

  • Marathon - tick!

      2 November 2010

I can't believe after months of training, the Auckland marathon has now been and gone. I was elated to cross the finish line as I don't think the legs could've held out for much more. The final 10kms really was a test of true determination. The first half of the run went really well and I?had a great pace going,?I started to slow around the 26km mark but was still going well. Hitting St?Heliers, the turning point along the waterfront?was where the legs really felt the burn and my pace slowed some more. I pushed on fighting thoughts of walking and managed to complete the marathon in 3hr55mins! Was so stoked to come in under 4hrs. The?legs are still feeling the effects of running 42kms today but it's a reminder of what I've just achieved.

  • 4 days to go

      27 October 2010

Went for a nice 7km run around the Panmure Lagoon twice after work yesterday. What a stunning evening. Regardless of whether I run 7km or 32km any distance seems to be tough.... The nerves are starting to set in!

  • This time next week I'll be done!

      25 October 2010

To think, this time next week I'll be recouperating from my epic 42km run. Went for a 16km on Saturday and felt really good. It's such a relief knowing the time has nearly come. I just hope I'm prepared enough.

  • Not long to go now

      21 October 2010

Sitting at my computer telling myself I need to go for a run but am feeling pretty jaded. Went for a 10km on Tuesday after work, was a good run although my left foot had pins and needles the whole time...hmmmm. Anyway best get out of the office and hit the pavement.

  • Time to taper

      18 October 2010

I'm so excited at the thought that I have no more big runs ahead of me untill race day. Completed 36kms yesterday and my legs were in agony! I'm hoping like anything adrenalin will help me through on the 31st. Not looking forward to the pain I'm going to endure but it's all for a good cause :-)

  • 2.5 weeks to go and counting...

      12 October 2010

What a lovely Tuesday evening for a run, i just hope my legs agree. Had planned to run 36km on Sunday but hit the 32km mark and couldn't move much further than that so had to cut my run short, which was disappointing. The left hamstring was feeling tight so need to get to physio?this week for a massage.

Managed to get up early this morning for a run. Was much better than my run after work of Tuesday which was a nightmare -?I got stitch and my legs felt like lead. Here's hoping I don't experience either of those on race day!

I've been a bit slack this week. According to my training schedule I was supposed to do a gentle 30mins on Monday and 50mins yesterday. I didn't do either! I promise to run on Thursday though for an hour, and then another big one on Sunday.

Completed 31kms this morning and the legs are stuffed. Feet were sore at certain times but came right eventually. Running along the waterfront with a head wind was pretty tough but it was the undulating hills near the end that really got me. The only upside was the thighs saw some sun! I hope I can survive 42kms...

      24 September 2010

Last nights 10km run should have been a walk in the park...well it was anything but. I battled?wind and rain but the worst thing was my feet, they were aching in my new shoes. I knew to expect that, what with breaking in new shoes, but for the whole run they hurt. My legs didn't feel much better either,? it took 9 of the 10kms for?them to actually start to feel good. Today I farwelled a?gorgeous girl who I got to know really well last year. Ayla Blake passed away on 19 September after relapsing earlier this year. She was talented, fun loving and had the most infectious smile. Her funeral today was a celebration of her life and it was beautiful. I'll be crossing that finish line for you Ayla x

      20 September 2010

After a big 28km run on Sunday the legs are feeling pretty good (although not so at the time). Have had some hamstring issues over the last couple of weeks but it looks like the physio and chiro visits have worked. Also bought some new running shoes yesterday so looking froward to trying them out.
