Kimberly’s Spoons & Do-A-Dare for M.E.: Raising Funds for ME/CFS & Long Covid

Hi, I’m Kimberly and I have me/cfs and possibly long covid. In 2023 I fell sick and lost my job, my home, my independence and my ability to do things such as read a book and drive a car. I also lost some of my mobility and am now partially disabled. I spend my days mostly in bed, resting and avoiding getting sicker through too much activity or stimulation.

To this day I still haven’t had a solid diagnosis and have no medical pathway or plan to getting better. Unlike many other illnesses, doctors don’t know how to treat me or where to refer me to. It is also extremely hard to access home help through government agencies. I’m not the only person that this is happening to though and a lot of other people are in a far worse position than me.

I’m aiming to raise much needed funds for me/cfs and long covid support in New Zealand, not for myself but for others with the same debilitating illness. If enough money were raised it could help with cooking and cleaning support, advocacy, lobbying and so much more.

…And if you’re wondering why I’ve called my page ‘Kimberly’s Spoons’, in our me/cfs and long covid communities we refer to the amount of energy we have left as spoons. So, these are my spoons and I’m using them to help others get the help they need.
