Fundraising for Koru Care Charitable Trust New Zealand
Pukekohe, Auckland
Three years ago, our son Kobi (Age 11) contracted E.Coli (Shiga strain).
To this day we still do not know actually how he contracted this.
The virus was so severe it then turned to HUS/Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, in June that year causing complete kidney failure... and ultimately led to Stage Three Chronic Kidney disease.
For three months he recieved around the clock Renal care, dialysis treatment from our wonderful Starship Hospital Childrens Renal team here in NZ.. to whom we are forever grateful.
It was an extremely difficult time, but unfortunately Kobi's bad luck did not stop there.
15 months on, he started complaining of strong pain in his right knee/leg.
After many Specialist appointments Kobi was diagnosed with Hip Perthes bone disease (which was caused by the trauma his body went through during his renal failure).
Perthes causes blood supply to stop in certain areas of bone (Hip).
Kobi spent all of last year (first year of high school), wheel chair bound and homeschooled until Starship and Auckland hospital issued it was safe to go ahead with Kobi's required specialised hip replacement surgery.
Kobi recieved his full hip replacement this past Christmas.
Kobi is thrivng and back to school.
He is a beautiful young man, and our hero!
He deserves this break, this trip
Thanks to Kidney Kids nominating Kobi, Kobi has been chosen with 15 other children for a once in a life time California Adventure trip fundraised by Koru Care Charitable Trust.
Anything donated is certainly appreciated.
