Fundraising for Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust
Otago
After being the first person to swim the length of Lake Wanaka (44km), in a wetsuit, in 2019 I took my wetsuit off and have hardly put it on since. My challenge since then is to see if I can handle cold water without the wetsuit. As I have slowly acclimatised, I set a goal to do a big swim in just togs. My plan is to try and swim from the Clutha River mouth to the Clyde Dam around the 4th March 2023.
My motivation to raise money for the Rescue Helicopter is the great memories I have working on the chopper with my late husband, Darryl Fairbairn, as part of the Otago Water Rescue Squad. And of course the AMAZING work the helicopter does in the Otago Southland Region.
Change of Day! 23 February 2023
Due to the weather forecast not looking favourable next week I have now brought my swim forward to Sunday 26th February...yep that's right, this Sunday! So yesterday was a frantic scramble trying to make sure my support team were available and getting other important factors in place...like support boats! Crossed fingers the weather holds on Sunday (could be a bit windy later in the day).
Thank you so much for your generous donation Michael.
