We are walking the Te Araroa to support building fully accessible bathrooms that everyone can use so everyone can participate in normal life

Nationwide

Kia Ora everyone,

We have the privilege to walk Te Araroa, a 3000km+ journey over several months, while other people can't even take the shortest trips due to the lack of bathroom facilities. Not everyone is able to use 'normal' disability toilets which are wide spread. Some wheelchair users need special equipment like a hoist and changing table instead and because of that they are not even able to go out for day trips.

'Changing Places New Zealand' is a non-profit organisation who builds these bathrooms country wide, and with our walk we would like to support their efforts.

At my work I see daily how it impacts people's lives and it's shocking to know that there are people out there who are not able to do what everyone takes for granted. Going to the toilet! Within our small community we've seen what a huge impact it can have if there are fully accessible facilities available.

It should be a human right to go out and be able to use a bathroom, but the reality is, it's not a reality for everyone. The ones who are often enough forgotten by society, are forgotten again.

Being able to do something like walking Te Araroa while at the same time knowing people can't even go out for a few hours is heart breaking, so we would like to fundraise for ‘Changing Places New Zealand’ who change people's lives!
