Future Leader Students Walk with a Purpose in the Port Hills of Christchurch fundraising to feed 150 Ugandan school children for a year.
Canterbury
On the 3rd of October 2021, 48 Lincoln University Future Leader Students will be walking with a purpose for Fountain of Peace Children's Foundation NZ. As one of the third-year project's, this group of Future Leaders set out with the mission to host a Future Leader social event with a purpose and ultimately help make a difference in the lives of others.
The money raised by the Future Leaders from the walk with a purpose will go towards the life changing feeding programme, run by Fountain of Peace at Rwenjaza Hillside School in Uganda. Rwenjaza is an extremely impoverished area where children have no other transport option other than to walk to and from school every school day. Children live up to 10km away from school and many walk each day on an empty stomach. The feeding programme at the Rwenjaza Hillside School provides each student with a nourishing cup of porridge, which is life giving and life changing and costs just $36 per child for a whole school year.
The Future Leaders goal is to feed 150 of the Rwenjaza School students for a whole school year!
The 10km walk will start at the Sign of the Takahe, winding up to the summit of the Port Hills overlooking Lyttelton Harbour, and then through the forest, looping back to the Sign of the Takahe. The walk is expected to take approximately 2 hours and represents the distance some Rwenjaza Hillside School students in Uganda walk to and from school each day.
