Linda Runs for Firefly

  • Update for 09/01/2014

      9 January 2014

Only six weeks till Round the Bays and eight weeks till I leave for Nepal... on the countdown now! After a break over Christmas and New Years I'm back on the training runs and have a 14.5km run to do this weekend... the longest distance I've ever run... eek! I'm doing 2-3 shorter runs during the week and experimenting with different methods of rehydration - it's all a bit more complicated than I imagined. Really enjoying it though, and I loved exploring my weekend getaway destination of Oamaru during a 10km run, a great way to see a new town. :)

  • Update for 17/12/2013

      17 December 2013

I am fortunate enough to have such a wonderful group of friends and co-workers who have smashed the fundraising target - in about 24 hours! Thank you to everyone who has donated... I will use this as more motivation goodness on my training runs!

  • New training program started

      20 November 2013

Yesterday marked the beginning of my proper training for the Wellington Round the Bays half marathon. Eeek! Previously I used the Zen Labs C25K app to get me to 5km (and the 7km RTB event last year) and then the 10km app to get me across the line of the Great Forest Run 10km event earlier this year. I liked how the changes between walking and running broke up the monotony a little. But this time around I've decided to move away from the walk/run training and focus on running the full distance with no walking breaks. I'm lucky enough to live in a very pretty part of the world and my runs are anything but monotonous now with hills, sheep, calves, trees, streams and beautiful skies to keep me entertained. I'm following a training program outlined in another app (RunKeeper) that has four runs a week to complete - three shorter, slower-paced ones and one longer, faster run. Yesterday I completed a 4.8km run (with no breaks!) in about 35 minutes, in the beautiful evening light and with the company of a fantastic playlist. :)
