Help Lloyd support other disabled athletes to compete alongside able bodied athletes in mainstream running events.
Auckland
My life changed dramatically in my early 20s after a rugby accident when psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylosis set in. Prior to that I excelled at rugby, badminton and swimming. The disease continued actively and limited my mobility to the point that I was choosing to use a wheelchair more frequently. Participating in sport has been put on hold for the past 45 years while I operate my business with the support of my wife, Debbie and our two sons, Scott and Samuel.
New medication has turned my life around. Mobility is still limited but pain and inflammation is down and energy levels are up, allowing me to exercise in water and walk longer distances. My ultimate goal is to one day walk the New York Marathon. Joining Achilles has motivated me to get out there and meet other athletes and hear their stories. I have witnessed the freedom a hand crank cycle can give a person otherwise totally reliant on a walker.
I am fundraising for Achilles while I walk Cigna Round the Bays. Your donation will give other Achilles athletes opportunities to get out and experience the thrill of participation and ultimately improved health and self esteem.
Achilles New Zealand are honoured to again be the Official Charity Partner of the prestigious Cigna Round the Bays Wellington event.
Thanks for your donation : )
