Raising funds for the design and build of a self-contained Tramping Hut on Brookfield land.

Wellington

Steve Lock gave many years of service to the youth of Khandallah and even now his legacy lives on. A visit to the Khandallah Scout Hall will confirm this very quickly as the place still has numerous signs penned by Steve. The hall developments still stand and the gear store is full of the best camping gear that could be bought at the time.

A project has been initiated to design and build a self-contained Hut on land of the Brookfield Scout Outdoor Education Centre in Wainuiomata, Wellington, the full support for which has been given by the Brookfield executive and trustees.

The project is in the late stages of completion. $50,000 has been raised towards the total costs of $70,000, the site has been identified, cleared, foundations put in and the erection of the hut in the has come a long way.

The final push of fundraising is underway to enable the hut to be complete, the plumbing installed, finishing undertaken, materials and professional services paid for.

Help has also been enlisted from students at Whitireia New Zealand to complete the project.

Great to see the project underway. Steve would have enjoyed getting behind a project like this and would have enjoyed getting his landcruiser stuck on the track trying to get materials close to the site!

Really looking forward to seeing this finished and used. Its a great legacy for Steve and the glory days of KVU. Its the sort of project he would just love to get in behind.
