Fundraising for Eastern Bays Hospice Trust TA Dove Hospice & Wellness

Auckland

I started swimming a little more than 7 years ago and my first ocean race was in 2015, for 500 meters. I almost did not finish that race because of an anxiety episode in the middle of the ocean. Now I am racing the legendary Rangitoto Island to St Helier's ocean race which will be 4.6 km or 2.9 miles. Race is on the 26th of November organized by the NZ Ocean Swim Series.

I am not certain I will finish the race as it depends on the water conditions on the day. I have been training hard and have the stamina for a 4 km swim in the pool but ocean swimming can be a different beast. If the current is too strong, I may have to ask to be rescued.

I am racing in behalf of Dove Hospice, a hospice close to my heart. All of the money raised will go to them. I am deeply familiar with the full person care they provide at Dove.

When the race gets tough, thinking of Dove House patients and staff will keep me going.
