Wellington

Thank you for supporting Loud Shirt Day 2019: where we have fun, wear colour, and change the lives of New Zealand's deaf and hearing impaired children.

Loud Shirt Day is an annual event held every September, and is all about getting loud and raising funds to help deaf children who have cochlear implants and hearing aids learn to listen and speak.

Our little two year daughter Lucy is a very happy recipient of two cochlear implants. She is a happy little girl who loves music and dancing, laughing with her brother and generally charging around. The cochlear implants have made a massive difference to us as a family, including helping us to stay in Wellington close to family (instead of moving closer to a sign language immersion school). SCIP have been amazingly supportive to us and they do wonderful work helping people with cochlear implants.

On Loud Shirt Day, schools, businesses, community groups and individuals raise money by dressing up in a loud shirt, participating in a fun event and collecting as many donations as possible.

You can find other kids stories here: www.loudshirtdaynz.org/real-stories https://www.loudshirtdaynz.org/real-stories

The kids at that link and our daughter Lucy are among the hundreds of New Zealand children who come to The Hearing House and the Southern Cochlear Implant Programme for audiology services and auditory-verbal therapy. All services are free to families.

This September I’ll be wearing my loudest shirt and raising funds to help deaf children across New Zealand, who have cochlear implants and hearing aids, learn to listen and speak like their hearing peers. Lucy & I may also be on Breakfast TV on Fri 27th!
