  • Update for 01/12/2014

      1 December 2014

We did it! Our official time on the Speights West Coaster website is 9:22:31. It was a challenging but awesome day. Nicole & Carla got us off to an amazing start with a great time on the longest leg of the race. Then Krystina and Natalia conquered a massive set of stairs to complete leg 2. In leg 3, Lorna & Andrea waded through mud and water in Goldie's Bush before handing the baton to Jonelle and Carole who brought us home despite having to manoeuvre some terrifying heights. The team could not have done it without the epic support of Barbs and Debbie - the exceptional road crew - that kept us fed, watered and smiling! We are trying to upload some photos for you all so you can share our day. Thanks to all the people who have donated - we are keeping the 'lines open' for a few weeks to see if we can get closer to our target. What a massive effort to have raised almost $3000 so far for these two great charities. We are going to soak our legs and contemplate whether we want to set another challenge for next year!

Thanks to all those that came along to Cuba Lighthouse, Wellington to watch St Vincent last night. The movie added over $500 to our fundraising pot and with the raffle and other fundraising activities, as well as the donations through Give a Little, we have now raised over $1500. Congratulations to the raffle winners in Child, Youth and Family (David, Gabe, Celestien and Beverly).

      6 November 2014

On 28 & 29 November, staff from the Office of the Chief Social Worker, CYF, were supposed to take part in New Zealandfs only non-stop overnight running relay race. The 2014 Evolo K2M was a 320km relay run from Papakura to Mount Maunganuicbut then it got cancelled! Unfortunately, the K2M organisers contacted us earlier this week to say the event is off. We were gutted to say the least. However, we haven't let it stop us. Instead, on Saturday 29 November, the Mad COWS will be running the Speightfs West Coaster Adventure Run. We will be entering a couple of teams for the marathon team relay which has been described as gquite possibly NZ's toughest off-road marathonh. You can see the pictures here: http://www.thewestcoaster.co.nz/
