  • Update for 24/03/2013

      24 March 2013

At the Relay. It is almost 1am. Rain holding off. The clouds are looking a bit dodgy. I am waiting for my walk in two hours. Maybe i should have a little snooze. It is quite noisy. The Men in Black Team sponsor a disco till 2am. The naughty Raffi is here - smuggled her in no dogs allowed. Had a nice visit from the Commisioner. We are eating the chocolate she brought. Once again this has been a great experience. Thanks again to everyone for support!

My update for tonight is a huge big thank you all for your generous donations. You are all great! gUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.h Dr Seuss - The Lorax

  • Update for 19/03/2013

      19 March 2013

It is only four more sleeps before the Relay. This year it is my 5th Relay and it is the 10th year since I became an unwilling customer of the Cancer Society. In this post I reflect on a couple of things. The Relay for Life is an amazing event. If you come and visit, you will see a community pulling together to do good stuff. The two things that always amaze me are the kids that get stuck in to supporting this cause. They are always amongst the top fundraisers and the most fierce competitors in the running race. But Relay is not about a race -though it is fun to watch those kids zooming around as we stroll in the slow lane of the track. It is about celebrating life and remembering people we know who have or have had cancer and it is about helping to fight cancer. The Cancer Society are dedicated to doing that. From my experience, they are a group of amazing people who really make a difference. They don't just support patients but they also support carers and health professionals. For me they were part of the life saving machine that wrapped around me. They provided support in the form of information, co-ordination and counseling. Most of all they were true friends and I am very grateful for what they did for me. I always say lots of good things came from having cancer, my friends at the Cancer Society are one of those things and having been involved in Relay is another!

  • Update for 18/03/2013

      18 March 2013

My plan was to post a last week marketing effort to sell our raffle tickets tonight but thanks to the fabulous prize donations we have received we have almost sold out! So instead I am posting a big thank you to Interislander for donating a $500 travel voucher and Railway New World for a lovely gift basket. One lucky supporter of Cappys Angels is going to have a pretty good start to their holiday!
