Michael is taking part in Running Without Borders to raise funds for Engineers Without Borders to help communities in-need
International
Hi I'm Michael and I'm a fourth year conjoint student, who is from Wellington. I have decided to get involved this year with Running Without Borders. Growing up in a developing country, I know how important it is to be have access to clean water sources. It is a privilege that many of us take for granted and a major advantage of first world countries. That’s why I have decided to raise awareness through getting involved in Engineering Without Borders (EWB).
I will be participating in the 10 km event, walking carrying 20L of water. This is a situation that several people around the world find themselves in, due to the scarcity of local appropriate water sources. Worldwide, approximately 1 in 3 people find themselves adversely affected by water scarcity. With urban migration and an increasing global population, this problem is set to keep growing.
Any money raised through fundraising will go directly to EWB, who have several projects concerning water. Many of these involve aiding communities in both New Zealand and our neighbouring countries in the South Pacific. EWB NZ is a registered charity that works alongside partner organisations to provide engineering assistance to communities in-need.
