Thanks to my lovely support team on Saturday 13th April @ 12.42pm I finally completed my 38 climbs.
Thanks for all your support and generosity.
My very special girlfriends Tracey and Sue made the journey down from Auckland to climb my final 5 walks with me over the weekend. We were able to get two climbs ticked off Friday night. 35 now completed
33 in total... Thank goodness the end is in sight. Looking at completing 48 hours after deadline, with my best buddy coming down from Auckland to support.me. A major achievement after having to have three unscheduled weeks off.
On a beautiful Tauranga autumn morning, we all turned up for a group climb with special guest Samantha Hayes (a generous supporter of RDA).
I'm now finally out of the 20s where I was stuck for so long and officially on 31 climbs.
x2 more climbs. 29 completed, out of 38. Caught up with Team Skyla - totally an inspirational family. Poppa had completed 203 climbs, hell knows how his body does it.
I had the privilege to work with little Skyla at RDA before she passed away, an absolute honour.
I'm back fit and healthy - yay...today managed to complete two slow but successful climbs.
11 more climbs to go.
As you may have noticed I haven't posted anything since 11 March. On 13 March I picked up a bug. I didn't think much of it. A few days and I will be good as gold. Not the case. The bug is a bloody nasty virus in my gut, (which I now hate with a passion). Today I have had to admit defeat. I was taken by ambulance to Tauranga hospital to get liquids pumped into me, as I have become very dehydrated. It's going to take a little while before I'm up to look at strenuous climbing. Which is why I will be unable to complete the challenge by the due date 14th of April. I am sorry if I've let you down. I promise I will complete my 13 outstanding climbs when I'm able and will continue to keep posting my progress. Thank you for your generous donations.
I have seen first hand what a difference RDA does to peoples lives... my heart shines.
Mxx
Two today in late arvo, in beautiful shade of Mauao. #25⛰️
Plus had two beautiful supporters, I bumped into...long time family friends (Stan & Donna) from my home town, Lower Hutt giving me inspiration. Thanks guys.🙏
Shouldn't the challenge get easier the more times you do it?
I swear that mountain is growing taller by the day.
Today it took me a good 20 min walk to get to the track due to oceans 19 - parking issues, 2hrs & 45 minutes to achieve 3 climbs (usually under 2hrs). Even the oldies from the cruise ship started to pass me on my 3rd climb - embarrassing!
Now ice on knee and we'll deserved cold beer. Good news is 23/38 ticked off.
Pics tell the story.

Very special #20 on Friday evening 8th March in very light rain. Body only wanted one today, so for once I listened.
Three climbs today 17,18 &19. Half way up Everest....must be all down hill from here. Thanks to my Japanese support team today.
Yesterday ticked climbs 15 and 16...plenty of support from fellow climbers. Over pics of myself at the top, they all look the same. Instead have posted Scotty, one of our RDA horses I spent some time with earlier that day.
Check out pics - just a small sample of climb....I am so over stairs, no surprise why knee is unhappy!!!!
But once at summit...life is GOOD such an amazing rock to be able to climb.
10 and 11 ticked off this evening, beautiful conditions, stunning views. Shame about the knee... it's definitely not happy. Have given it a damn good talking to!!!!
Nothing a few drugs can't fix or may have to go around the long way to avoid the steps, which will be torturous. 🤞
Guess who I bumped into this morning on my way up for the 8th climb... Coach Sharon!!!! (Does she live on Mauao?)
Knee not happy about this crazy schedule, protesting all the way, but eventually the body finally made a very slow 9th climb. Today was a day to stop, take in the magnificent scenery and realize how blessed I am to be able to do this.
Body was suffering today, thought I had one climb in me. On my way up caught up with Coach Sharon who made the climb easy. Thought why not... beautiful night I will do a second (no.7) the pic says it all!!!!
Thought today I would try two climbs... back to back this time after an 8.30am power yoga class (the theory being that I would be stretched and flexible).
Not sure what happened but adrenaline took over, was spurred on by other climbers and before I knew it I was climbing up for the third time.
Now I can hardly walk, knees and back reminding me how old I am.
I definitely won't be doing that again...EVER
Kicked off the challenge tonight. Number 1/38 in very high humidity (why did I sign myself up for this!!!).
Number 2/38 half an hour later with the RDA team and supporters was in lovely gentle rain...fun way to spend Friday evening. Thanks for your support team. 🏇
