... to all Relay for Life 2012 participants ...
1 April 2012,... an incredibly amazing event to be a part of ... and our donations are STILL COMING IN ... two donations since last night ... wow !!. to the wonderful people who came to support us during the day, night or morning ... to those of you who came for a 30 minute walking slot, to those of you who were there from Saturday 12pm - 9am Sunday, to those of you who were thinking of us during our walk, to those of you who sent well wishes, food, drink, donations ... AWESOME EFFORT and thank you. Tomorrow morning I will update this website with all the highs (many) and lows (possible only one = lack of sleep!) of the day ... Before I retire to slumber joy, I would like to say a big, big?thank you to three remarkable and wonderful people - TUA, MARIE AND BRIAN - who?joined us for afternoon tea in the survivors'?and carers' tent ... you are an inspiration to your?grandchildren, some of whom?took part in this event ... we could not have wished for a better start to the 2012 Relay for Life than to be blessed with your presence. Nice one! ?xx

31 March 2012Dear all Woke at 5.30am - checked the weather - a little cloudy, the air is crisp and fresh, no wind, no rain, yay! Checked the GiveALittle website and WOW, what happened there ... suddenly we are almost at 6,000 (incl $600 not recorded on GiveALittle) ... unbelievable feeling towards the mammoth outpouring of support and goodwill for Cancer Society Wellington ... !!! ... the Midazzers are ?ready to go - TO THE SURVIVORS, CARERS AND THOSE WE HAVE LOST TO CANCER, today is the day which we acknowledge, remember and fight back for you ... we have you in our hearts, thoughts, and stories we share. You will never be alone x To our supporters - your generosity has been amazing, your support has been outstanding and constant. Please know the Midazzer core team read each and every one of your messages. We take these with us today. The Midazzer walkers?at Relay will represent?the many, many Midazzer supporters (in physical?presence and in spirit)?who?acknowledge and appreciate Cancer Society Wellington and their work in helping families such as ours cope with the devasting impact of Cancer. ? ... an update will be posted later today ...????????????

Thanks to all of you who have donated ... the total on GiveALittle PLUS $600.00 from our donations given directly to Cancer Society have totalled just over $5K ...? Yesterday and today?several members of the Midazzer team?visited two people (very dear to us) who are fighting against cancer. Our message to you: your families and?friends are right behind?you -?we send to you our strength, we send to you our courage but most of all we send to you?our love and prayers - Fight back! This afternoon was spent at Makara visiting?our son, father, brother and uncle xx ...?we?left a Midazzer sash with written messages?... We remember with love Paul?Churchward?xx? The day?is beautiful ... the sun is streaming in my office, the sky is blue and clear, and the words of?Hayley and?Karlos?for tomorrow 'the weather is going to be nice'?is very reassuring ... driving past Frank Kitts Park this morning we see the tents and marquees are assembled and the buzz words for?today are?Relay for Life. Yesterday we picked up the international part of our contingent - Sophie and Zachary who were whisked away for an all important Relay for Life briefing (i.e. first cousin dinner at Fidels!!), before retiring for an early night - part of the preparations for Sat - well done Midazzers ! To all our supporters ... you are keeping the Midazzers?totally motivated by?your well wishes and support; your gifting is appreciated and we are very proud to be handing over the donations?to Cancer Society Wellington on your behalf. Keep those donations and support coming ... Please can we send out positive vibes to those who are currently 'fighting back' against Cancer - the power of the collective should never be underestimated!? 29 March 2012the Midazzers Celebrate and acknowledge cancer survivors the Midazzers Remember loved ones lost to cancer the Midazzers Fight back against cancer ... wow, we are humbled by the generosity?of so many people ... it's wonderful what we can achieve when we work together ... THANK YOU SO MUCH, keep the positive messages coming ... Preparations for Saturday are well and truely underway: timetable-check, camping chairs-check;?torches-check; campbeds-check; food/drink/snacks-doublecheck; tarpaulins-check; good?walking shoes-check; memory board-check, so much more to do-check! We received the Relay for Life programme and it's full of activities, here are a few things: 2.30pm Survivors' and Carers' afternoon tea; 4.00pm Survivors' and Carers' lap of honour 6.00pm Zumba 8.00pm Candle Tribute procession/Candlelight ceremony 10.30pm Karaoke hour (definitely the Midazzers will be attending!) Midnight Disco (and here too!!!) 7.00am Breakfast 8.45am Final lap 9.00am some very, very tired people!!!! We are really looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday ... we are expecting a nice day ! Please let's remember those whom we have lost to cancer EARLIER UPDATE ... .. 55 hours and counting ... ... regular updates will be posted as we count down to the opening of the 2012 Cancer Society Wellington Relay for Life ... We love it that Survivors and Carers are our VIPs at the event: The Survivors and Carers open the event with a lap of honour ... it is a wonderful acknowledgement to those who have fought and won the battle against cancer; and to those who have, or continue to care, support and embrace their loved ones touched by cancer; the lap of honour is also a dedication to those whom we REMEMBER WITH LOVE - a sentiment carried throughout the event. Fantastic efforts for Cancer Society Wellington ...
28 March 2012... and we can't possibly contain our excitement !! ... Some of our Midazzer donors have donated directly to Cancer Society (which unfortunately doesn't show up on this fundraising page) which amounts to?= $600.00 ... so together with our Give-A-Little fundraising, the total is well on its way to reaching $4,000 ... absolutely way beyond our expectations. We have had?donations from people whom we have never?met, and loads from those we have, friends of friends of friends have donated, and those?who are dear?to us have too. We have had?donations from as far away as New York, and several from Sydney !?... Warm big fuzzies to you all ... We have?two dazzling Midazzers,?Zachary Churchward and Sophie Churchward (thanks Luke!) who will be flying in from Sydney on Thursday just for the event. Last night we proudly decorated our memory bags (as we are aware some of who were at home doing the same thing!) ... we are so touched by the incredible force of friendship and support that so many of you are sending us ... please keep that coming ... Chocolate Brownie rush update ... and other things ...
22 March 2012CHOC BROWNIES Wow, we started with a recipe?...?spent 42 hours prepping, measuring, mixing, waiting -?36 slabs of pure chocoholic heavan, sliced into?432 6.5x7.5cm, incl 1728 jellybeans,?1236 labels,?8 balloons,?7 midazzers/4 midazzer-inis?selling for 15 hours,?money has been counted and? we are?now slumped in the chair with the sweet smell of dark chocolate a distant memory ! CHOCOLATE BROWNIES IN THE HOOD/CBD/SCHOOL ... was a great success - in total team Midazzers?raised just over $1400.00 from?this?sweet fundraising event - we are so excited as this was our first attempt at a fundraising event and we think we did pretty darn well! A?BIG SHOUT?out to the wonderful people and organisations?who supported us by inviting our lovely Midazzers/inis to their workplace/school (and buying up large!!):? RABOBANK (Karlos),? PHOTO AND SONG TRIBUTES
19 March 2012Photo Tributes will be running during Relay for Life. If you would like to send a photo of your loved one with a short message (less than 20 words), Cancer Society will include the tribute in the powerpoint slideshow which will take place after the Candlelight Ceremony. Last year the tributes were awesome and we watched with pride and read every message. It's?a great way to honour our loved ones. Song Tributes:?MoreFM will be playing song?tributes to?those whom we remember. Last year?Hayley and Emily?were interviewed by MoreFM?before playing Emily's original song to which?11 of our team danced to?... in the pelting rain too!! So send in the name of a song and the artist and a short message. We will ensure your tributes get to?Cancer Society?...you must send to us by?WEDNESDAY A.M. AT THE LATEST AS WE HAVE TO SEND THIS ON ... FUNDRAISING UPDATE Chocolate brownies at Bunnings
18 March 2012Big cheers to Bunnings at Lyall Bay ... they gave us our own spot at one of the store entrances ?... premier spot ...?an organisation selling biscuits and a school doing a sausage sizzle had to share the other entrance spot! sorry! The Bunnings staff also generously donated and brought some brownies for their morning teas! Big shout out to our midazzers sales guru Maricia and her apprentice Bella who both worked tirelessly for 3 hours on Saturday ensuring we sold the last morsel of our brownies! Thanks to those who stopped to chat,?brought brownies, shared?their stories, donated and?joined us for?moral support. 15 March 2012UPDATE ON FUNDRAISING EVENT: ""CHOCOLATE BROWNIES IN THE CBD"" ... was a great hit. 72 brownie packs were sold in an hour!!! Thanks to our midazzers - Hayley, Susannah and Alena who midazzled their way through the corporate world! ... and to the wonderful workplaces who supported us by buying out our stocks - Rabobank, Westpac Manners, Rebel Sport Manners Mall. Selling again next Thursday and Friday. PLEASE WE NEED YOUR HELP ... CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE 2012 31st March 4pm - 9am 1 April 2012 ""the Midazzers - Warriors for our loved ones"" Cancer Society Wellington have provided our family and friends with amazing support by way of information, support services, and car park facilities - which I have definitely utilised particularly over the last 2 years. This is a great opportunity for our family and friends to give back to Cancer Society who are, and continue to be, a truly amazing source of support for so many others. ? DONATE OR SPONSOR: We would love your support as our team embark on a 17-hour-nonstop walkathon (no doubt our fitness fanatic team members will be running!!). CANDLELIGHT CEREMONY BAGS $5 At dusk a Candlelight Ceremony is held. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer and to show our support for those living with cancer. Candle bags inscribed with personal messages are placed around the track. As they burn throughout the night, they emit a warm glow from the candles placed inside. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
12 March 2012Hi everyone the countdown is on until our 2012 Relay for Life. Everyone is getting excited and going full steam ahead fundraising. We piloted our ""Chocolate brownies in the neighbourhood"" fundraising event selling to our neighbours and sold out within an hour!!!!? Great job Hayley, Susannah and Isabella!? We are now doing ""Chocolate brownies in the workplace""?this Thursday, so my house will be smelling of chocolate heaven for the next couple of days !!!! We?have targetted particular work organisations?but we could come to your workplace?real soon !!!?? Our sashes?have been finalised and will read : Relay for Life 2012 - the Midazzers - Warriors for our loved ones. Look out for us and our bright Daffodil coloured sashes!! 4 March 2012Cancer Society of Wellington Relay for Life - 31st March 4pm - 9am 1 April 2012 - (for loads of information on Cancer Society and wonderful services and support they provide for individuals and families please go to : http://cancernz.org.nz/divisions/wellington/about/ or visit the official Relay for Life website: http://www.relayforlife.org.nz/event/event?locationright=Wellington&todo=region ) WELCOME everyone to the Midazzers fundraising page Just over 3 weeks to go before we start the 17-hour Relay for Life 2012 walk/run. We have loads of stuff to do but we're really excited about the day/night. We have loads of team members, old and new, who have signed up to carry the Midazzer baton for 17 hours straight - our team are coming from all over Wellington, Auckland (Cooper family), and Sydney (Zachary and Sophie) - so that's commitment for you!! All our team members are also fundraising for this event so please support them. Last year we had a great time and even though our tent was flooded out our team members were determined to make it through the night particularly as we had so many donors, supporters and well wishers behind us - we couldn't let them or ourselves down. This year's team is even more committed - we have almost covered the 11pm-6am time slot - thanks to our younger energetic and enthusiastic team members !! Last year our bright, almost glow-in-the-dark Daffodil coloured sashes were a great hit - as well as standing out like beacons of 'determination', the sashes had GPS characteristics in that it was pretty easy to locate each other in the crowd! So, we are staying with the colour choice this year! Check out some of the photos from last year. This year we were lucky to secure sponsorship from Telesmart which will pay for our team registration - big shout out to TELESMART (Nigel Barker) - for your support.
