Mobico Heart Kids Adventure Racing Team are competing in the 2016 GODZone Adventure Race to raise funds and awareness for Heart Kids

Canterbury

The goal of Mobico Heart Kids Adventure Racing Team is to finish the full course of the GODZone Adventure Race being held in the Tasman region in April 2016 and in doing so increase the awareness and fundraise $100,000 for Heart Kids NZ and Heart Kids Canterbury, a charity in which team captain Rupert and his family have a close personal connection. We will be splitting the fundraising between Heart Kids NZ and Heart Kids Canterbury. This wouldn't be possible without the help and support from our amazing sponsor Mobico.

GODZone is the ultimate expedition adventure racing experience. The event sees unsupported teams of 4 travelling approximately 500km across New Zealand's wilderness for up to seven days. The GODZone Pure event represents the most technically challenging adventure race in the World and teams should prepare accordingly. As with previous Chapters of GODZone, teams have limited time to prepare their maps and strategy. Route choice and difficult navigation, along with a whole host of other skills, are critical for success. For those teams who do not make it through the Full Course, a shorter route will expedite them to the finish.

In the lead up to GODZone 2016, Mobico Heart Kids Adventure Racing Team will be training and competing in shorter races together, as well as holding fundraising events for Heart Kids NZ.

Throughout the race we'd love you to keep track of us and leave a message of encouragement!

The website is http://godzoneadventure.com/live/tracking/

During the week of the race starting on the 2nd April 2016 our team will have a GPS tracker that will plot our position every few minutes, so stay tuned.

Mobico Heart Kids Adventure Racing Team's involvement (page creator)

What Team Mobico Heart Kids is all about:

It started with team captain Rupert's son (Mitch, now 2 years old) and it is about 2,800 kids like him. At 6 weeks old, Mitchell was diagnosed with a hole in his heart and underwent open heart surgery at Starship Hospital when he was 18 months old.

Without the incredible help and support from everyone involved at Heart Kids Canterbury and Heart Kids NZ, this stressful time in their lives would have been a lot different. They went beyond and above, right from the moment they found out about Mitchell's heart defect, through to now 6 months post surgery. Heart Kids provides lifelong support for all those affected by the world's most common birth defect and heart disease acquired during childhood.

Mobico is proud to get in behind Heart Kids and the 4 wonderful people and their families who are taking on this adventure to raise awareness and much needed funds for Heart Kids NZ. Team members are Rupert, Karen, Hedley and Richard, who are all seriously accomplished endurance athletes. They and their supporters are now keen to help Heart Kids and are hoping to raise $100,000 over the next 6 months as they train and compete in GODZone 2016. Please help the Team Mobico Heart Kids to reach their goal.

The aim of Heart Kids is:

To provide the parent and families of children with congenital heart conditions the appropriate and timely support they need.

Heart Kids aims to:

• reduce the suffering, stress and premature death of these children and the emotional strain on their families;

• reduce the financial burden and stress placed on families taking a child to Starship Children’s Hospital;

• encourage, develop and implement programmes for a child's rehabilitation following surgery;

• Promote awareness and conduct and publish research about children with heart conditions.

• It is also responsible for the publication and distribution of the practical handbook for parents.

• Introduce heart families to others to build their own support networks and reduce isolation
