We will be running the Mount Maunganui Half Marathon on 27th August for Youth Mental Health. We have chosen to raise funds for I Am Hope who help provide services to those who are struggling. Please join us on our journey as we hit the pavement and move for mental health.
Anneka- Being previously in the Police for almost 7 years, I have witnessed firsthand the effects of mental health and suicide in our community. People are easy to blame the health system for letting our youth down, but it's much more than that. Our behavior as a society needs to change. Talking about your mental health is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of courage. So, take that extra time to check on your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers, because you never know what someone else is going through.
Kate- My motivation to run this race is my loved ones who are currently facing their own mental health battle. Mental Health is such an important topic to address and we need to create more awareness around it and figure out how we as a community can help those who are struggling.
If you're not in a position to donate - instead please think of a family member or friend who you haven't heard from in a while who may be struggling and pick up the phone.
