Moving for Margot - my first attempt at the Coast to Coast mountain run!

  • That’s a wrap

Last weekend I completed the second and final (for now) running challenge on my journey to share my daughter Margot’s story. The Arrowsmith Highcountry Marathon was an epic adventure, made even more challenging by the constant rain and waterlogged tracks! In those conditions it was easily comparable to the C2C run. Full credit to those who helped me get to the start line, particularly @francestoulmin and @dougalallan who made sure I was prepared enough to enjoy it!

The support and feedback my family and I have received throughout has been inspirational, and has not only helped me cross the finish line, but also achieved our goal of sharing Margot’s story far and wide and creating new connections and opportunities globally. Your support has enabled us to get Margot a bike trailer, which will be modified to provide the support she needs. We have been connected with multiple families facing similar challenges around the globe thanks to those who have shared the story. In a few weeks, Margot will undertake a 2 week intensive physical therapy programme at home (with a therapist from Auckland that we have connected with) and in a few months, Frances and Margot will travel to Australia for a further 3 week intensive physical therapy programme. None of these opportunities could have been achieved without your support.

Thank you everyone, we are forever grateful! #movingformargot

You may have worked out that I didn’t complete my mission of running the Motatapu Off-road Marathon a few weeks ago as the the event was unfortunately cancelled! Not to worry, I found another event just as challenging so I can still complete my mission. I’m running the Arrowsmith Off-road Marathon on April 10. It’s been hard keeping the training going for another 5 weeks but just like Margot I wasn’t going to give up.

After hours and hours of training and clocking up 800kms+ running up hills, over rocks and through rivers over the past 4months, on Friday I finished the @coasttocoastnz Mountain Run, and it was awesome! I proved to myself (and possibly a few others) that all the training/preparation is worth it if you want to achieve your goals. But much like with Margot’s journey once you achieve one goal, it’s time to start focusing on the next. Next stop @motatapu_nz off-road Marathon!

To all those who have shared, donated, commented, liked, watched, or talked about Margot’s story so far, you are all a key part of what we have set out to achieve. Thank you and lets keep #movingformargot

Thank you everyone for your incredible support for Margot. We have now smashed the original goal. Just like with Margot, once we have reached one goal on our journey, we need to start chasing the next. So please keep sharing Margot’s story to keep her moving!

It is now less than 3 weeks until the coast to coast mountain run. Training has been going well and I am feeling like I’m ready for the challenge. I couldn’t have got this far without the support from friends and family who have kept encouraging me, and especially Margot who has been helping with some resistance training on the hills!
