We did it team! Just wanted to write a quick note of thanks to everyone.

Thanks for all your generous donations, your good luck wishes, and your congratulations.

We couldn't have asked for better conditions on race day (maybe a touch warmer would have been nice at the start, but that's probably just the Aucklander in me).

It was an absolutely amazing course with breathtaking scenery. The backdrop will be one for the books.

We started off at a nice relaxed pace, but unfortunately, cramp started creeping in around the 26/27km mark which made for a VERY challenging second half, and conveniently right before the big climb through the headland loop...

A compassionate fellow racer took pity in our pain and gifted us some salt tabs, but alas it was too little too late by that stage.

Nevertheless, we powered through (partly out of fear of cramps taking over if we stopped moving) and got it done in 6.19. A bit out of our anticipated 6 hour mark, but just means there's some unfinished business for next time!

As you can imagine, each step/stair feels like Mt Everest at the moment but feel very grateful to have had the privilege. A big thanks to my family, my support crew who put up with my endless hours of training. But the biggest thanks to all of you for your generous donations! Until the next adventure!

Quick update everyone: I've managed to complete the final long run of the training block!

It wasn't without it's challenges though. After 30kms into the run at Riverhead Forest, I mistakenly took a wrong turn and ran about 5km downhill... only to realise that, yes, I did in fact take a wrong turn so I'd have to run back up the hill I just came down. *sigh* so final km's for the day was just shy of 42km.

But I'm recovering well and even managed to speak to a few other runners out there on the trail about MS NZ and the great work they do. We're nearly at our target fundraising goal, so in my last two weeks before race day, I'll be giving it my best effort to get us across the line.

    Let's goooo!

  • Kinloch slip'n'slide done and dusted

Last weekend (10th September), I took a little trip down to Kinloch to participate in the Kinloch Off-road challenge. We couldn't have asked for a bigger challenge with the rain bucketing down by the ...bucketload!

Great opportunity to experience a portion of the Taupo 50km, now only 4 weeks away! A few more long runs and we can start to taper for the big day.

If you're out and about in Auckland this weekend (17th September), it'd be great to meet and thank you for your support in person at the MS Auckland Walk for awareness (https://www.msakl.org.nz/walk/)

    Let's gooooo!

  • Shifting the goal posts

      26 August 2022

    Hi everyone,

With around 7 weeks to go until race day, I thought it would be a good time to re-evaluate our goals and see if we can push a little harder in our support for MSNZ.

Training mileage is well and truly building up with 2x half marathons within 4 days, one on trail, one on road. These training miles have given me plenty of opportunity to reflect on life's challenges, and allowed me to fill up my resilience quotient bucket. I can only imagine the day to day challenges for those with MS, often-times struggling through challenges in silence, and alone.

If you've ever wondered "what is MS?", and "how can we get involved"? please reach out. Always happy to chat about the great work MSNZ is undertaking to support people living with MS in NZ.

    Let's gooooo!
