Cricketers growing mullets to support Te Omanga Hospice. The more you donate, the longer we keep them.
Wellington
Move over Movember! This March, Wellington's Eastern Suburbs Roosters cricket team will be sacrificing our lids, putting at risk all physical contact with our partners, when we fashion mullets for Te Omanga Hospice and take on a Parliament XI in a charity T20 match - the Mullet Bash.
Mullet March is our way of honouring Lyn Burt, who passed away in October 2018 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Lyn is the mother of the Rooster's founding member Docco. During her fight she spent time at Te Omanga Hospice and the care and compassion she received is something Docco and his family will remember for the rest of their lives. So we got to thinking how we, as a team, could help raise some funds for Te Omanga to ensure it can continue the great work it does and help boost awareness of the massive $10m it needs to raise for its re-build. Growing mullets and having them fashioned on international cricketers that once rocked them was the most obvious option available.
Flowing locks, flying balls and white thighs are set to light up Kilbirnie in March when an illustrious Parliament XI take on Wellington's infamous Eastern Suburbs Roosters in the ultimate charity T20 cricket match - the Mullet Bash. The TAB Mullet Bash is the centrepiece of a fundraising drive the Roosters have launched in honour of Lyn Burt, who passed away in October 2018 following a lengthy battle with cancer. All funds raised go to Te Omanga Hospice where Lyn, the mother of Rooster's founding member Andy 'Docco' Burt, spent time prior to her passing.
