Only 4 more sleeps until the adventure starts. One more day of work before heading to Wellington on Friday. Training over the last week been very lite, starting with a couple of days without getting on the bike, 150kms in the weekend and another three days off. Planning 1 or 2 more short rides over the next couple of days. Currently feeling pretty good and looking forward to the challenge.

Visited the Enderley Creative Studio today to talk to the members about the journey and all of the technology involved. The members of the studio are planning to track progress of the tour updating the studios Facebook and Twitter feeds daily, as well as creating a Google Earth Tour based on data collected from my cycle computer.

Murray Pearson, is cycling 800km as part of the BDO Wellington to Auckland Cycle Challenge on Sunday 15 to Saturday 21 February to raise money for a Tech Shed at Enderley Creative Studio, which is operated by the Waikato Digital Youth Network (WaiDYN), which he also chairs.

The Studio youth will be plotting Murray's GPS coordinates on a map, as well as feeding them into Google Earth, sharing that data via facebook and creating a virtual tour of his progress. They also plan to monitor his heart rate and compare it to another heart rate monitor one of the youth will wear for that week.

The Studio will be holding a cycling technology session with Murray and the youth members on Wednesday, 11th February at 4pm.

Murray says, he is “excited to be working with the Enderley Creative Studio on this project. I continue to be amazed at quality and creativity of the projects that are turned out by the members of the studio and looking forward to seeing what they come up with for this project. I am sure that it will give users of the virtual tour a real insight to what it is like to be involved in a multi-day cycle event. “

Enderley Creative Studio currently has over 300 members ranging in age from 8-25 and is open from 3-7pm Monday to Friday. Youth members have access to advanced technology including 3d engineering, robotics, video-game making tools, and photographic, audio and video production.

Youth create digital projects of self-interest and can work alongside well-trained creative adult mentors based at the Studio, as well as connect online to over 4000 youth at High Tech Youth Studio’s across the Pacific region from Hawaii to New Zealand.

The Tech Shed will provide opportunities for social enterprise development in the community by connecting youth members with mentors to provide ideas, products and services to industry and business networks.

  • Update for last Wednesday 4th Feb

Only 11 days until the start of this adventure. Training has been a bit lighter over the last week - 240 kms including a couple of rides down Rotorua way (around the lake and out to Lake Tarawera - see attached photos). Also did a bunch ride on Sunday morning out towards Naike which proved to be a bit of a challenge - particularly having to ride home with only two gears as the result of a broken shifter cable.

Support crew and accommodation now all organised. Thanks to Nina Pearson, John Anson and Craig Smith for offering to support me along the way.

A bit of a lighter week planned over the next week with a bunch ride on Saturday and a couple of easier 50km rides during the rest of the week.

Also going to work with a couple of the members from the Enderley Creative Studio over the next week who are aiming to use the data collected for my cycle computer to track and visualise my progress on the tour. Look forward to seeing what they come up with.
