Hawke's Bay

Napier Port is running a two-week fund-raising campaign in partnership with Save the Children to raise $10,500 for the Fiji COVID-19 Emergency Appeal. 100% of the funds raised will go towards buying and distributing two-week’s worth of food and sanitation packages for 150 families in Fiji.

Napier Port has a very strong connection with Fiji Ports with a number of our teams working closely together and hosting reciprocal visits in recent years.

Over the past few weeks, a number of our people have been in touch with Fiji Ports to see how they are coping with the COVID-19 outbreak and see how Napier Port could offer some kind of support.

Fiji’s COVID-19 outbreak is now worsening by the day and the country’s medical facilities are struggling to cope with an escalation in infections. The situation is fast becoming a humanitarian crisis.

The Port have explored a number of ways to help and support the people of Fiji. Our original plan to send a shipping container full of essential supplies is not going to work. Growing restrictions around movement and logistics mean that direct financial support is the quickest and easiest way to provide assistance to Fiji.

Our discussions with Fiji Ports have led us to partner with the international charity – Save the Children, to help fund emergency food and supplies for the struggling families and communities

in Fiji through the distribution of food and sanitation packages containing:

1 packet Rolled Oats (400g)

2 packets Nestle Ceralec (120g)

1.5kg Potatoes

2 packets Rewa powder milk

10kg Flour

10kg Rice

1 litre Cooking oil

2 tins Tin fish

2kg Dhal

1 pack Reusable nappies

1 pack 5 bathing soap

1 pack 10 surgical masks

2 packets Sanitary pads

This organisation is on the ground in Fiji and has been supporting the community through last year’s major tropical cyclones. You can read more about their life-saving work here –savethechildren.org.nz/our-work/emergencies/fiji-covid-appeal
