Going sober for one year to raise awareness around the dangers of binge drinking, and money for several charities.
Auckland
I am usually not one to speak up or get political, but I have decided that it is time for me to try make a difference. Everyone that knows me knows that I love a good beer or 12, which goes for a lot of people in New Zealand. This is the issue that I am addressing, New Zealand's binge drinking and substance abuse culture. It is hard to avoid nowadays. One drink always turns into a box, a night out always turns into a three day bender and "I'll just try it once" always turns into addiction. It has gotten so bad that the definition of alcoholism in this country is practically a joke.
In order to raise awareness around this issue I will be going sober for one year from today, until 23/07/2021. I know this will be hard and I may compromise some relationships because of it, but I want this issue to be talked about as well as prove to myself that I can do it. The charities the funds will go to are the Salvation Army, Gumboot Friday and White Ribbon New Zealand.
Alcohol addiction and abuse is an ongoing problem in New Zealand. I have decided to do something to make a difference. I will be going sober for one year to raise awareness around this issue as well as funds for several charities.
