FEBRUARY - OVARIAN Cancer Awareness Month?
Gynaecological cancers take the lives of more than 350 New Zealand women each year. Ovarian Cancer causes around 190 of these deaths.
STATS
- 3 women are diagnosed with a Gynae Cancer a day in New Zealand
- 1000 women a year are diagnosed with a Gynae Cancer
- 1+ mother, sister, grandmother, friend or colleague dies of a Gynae Cancer a day!
- When diagnosed early, your chance of surviving Ovarian Cancer for five years or more doubles from just 46 per cent to more than 90 per cent.
There is no early detection test for Ovarian Cancer, it is not detected via a smear test, so women need to be aware of the symptoms. Do you know the symptoms?

- Abdominal pain, abdominal bloating
- Diarrhea, constipation, changes in bowel habits
- Discomfort or pain in abdomen, pelvic region, or lower back
- Feeling full after eating only a few bites or loss of appetite
- Increased urinary frequency, pressure on the bladder
- Postmenopausal bleeding
- Vaginal discharge, bleeding, spotting, deep pain on intercourse
