  • 10 days 22 hours to go 23/10/2013

      23 October 2013

As Race Day looms closer I still quietly go hit the streets after the kids go to bed. I run past houses during the dusk light and smell what's cooking in the kitchen...why can't those yummy smells waft from my kitchen window?! After my internal dialogue finishes, I then move onto my pace, and I watch the older runners run past me - faster than me! My words of encouragement to myself ""slow and steady wins the race""

  • 3 Weeks to go

      13 October 2013

So for the last 3 Sundays, I have done my long runs. 10kms, 12km and today 14kms. My knees are stuffed! Today was particularly hard because for the first 5kms all I wanted to do was stop and walk. But then I remembered the little bits of muesli bar that I stashed in my pocket, and that gave me my 2nd wind. Thank goodness. Next week 15km.... eeek!

  • 5 Weeks to go!

      3 October 2013

I know its been a (LONG) while since I have updated my page and I notice there have been a couple more donations. To those lovely people who have donated, it has not been in vein, I am still training and committed to crossing that line on November 3rd! A MASSIVE THANK YOU to my guest donators. Your contribution has enabled me to reach my initial target of $500. Though now that I have 5(ish) weeks to go, I might have to reset my target and challenge myself to reach $1000. I'll be hustling it this month, so thank you for your support. xx

  • Week 5

      28 May 2013

WEEK 5 Still continuing my training at the gym! I feel myself getting stronger and intensity getting harder. This week I have started doing cardio before my x-training. First run 3k. So much easier to run with out pushing a buggy!

  • Weeks 1-3 10/05/2013

      10 May 2013

So this is actually my 3rd week. Let me give you a brief summary of how my training has gone so far. Week 1: Motivated, accumulatively ran/walked around 12kms. It was probably more walking than running, but me and my baby were up off that couch! Week 2: Nose dive back to nothing. Weather was crap in Auckland, and motivation to get moving was non existent. Week 3 (this week): Found a small community gym who allows me to bring my bubba with me to train. Sorted!

  • The Plan 09/05/2013

      9 May 2013

I have found a 26 week training plan from the internet, I have my training buddies (my babies) and now I just have to get up off the couch. I haven't really exercised regularly since having my 2 children so I definitely have challenging times ahead of me. But I think if I break it down into 3 parts hopefully this journey will become manageable. Part 1 - off the couch to running 5ks Part 2 - 5ks to 10ks (ouch) Part 3 - 10kms to the half marathon finish line (eeek!)

  • The Start Line! 09/05/2013

      9 May 2013

So its all out in the public domain now, so there is no turning back. I have committed to the Auckland Half Marathon! I have committed to the Parent Aid Central West! Hopefully we can both get something out of this cause. Me some health and fitness and Parent Aid a little bit of cash so they can continue to supporting parents. Who is going to be our first contributor??
