Pedaling for Good

Raising funds for the hospice will spur me on when the going gets tough and I feel like giving up

Wellington

I'm biking the Tour of Aotearoa which runs the length of NZ, leaving Cape Reinga early March and finishing (I hope!) at Bluff 26-30 days later; 3000 km all up. I'm doing it:

- to raise funds for Mary Potter Hospice who took such great, compassionate care for our Mum 2 years ago and a close friend this month

- because I can, and I have friends that would dearly love to do it too but can't for health reasons

Kirsten Malpas' involvement (page creator)

Mary Potter took the most amazing care of our Mum 2 years ago and continues to give care to anyone that needs it in Wellington. More recently, they took amazing care of a close friend and her family this Feb. SO very deserving and needed.

Pulled the pin at Hokitika  28 March 2020

Hi All

Thanks so much for donating to my page, together we've raised over $5000 for Mary Potter Hospice which has exceeded my expectations hugely! As most of you will already know, our plans were foiled with a certain virus forcing a national lockdown. This meant as we rolled into Hokitika, we found out our dream ride had to end in order for us to travel home before the lockdown. We will definitely return to complete it when we're safe to travel again, most likely next summer. In the meantime, here are some pics and stats to give you a taster.

- 20 days from Cape Reinga to Hokitika

- approx. 6-7 remaining to get to Bluff and complete

- 2239 km travelled

- 163 moving hours

- 13.2 km average speed (some big uphills and downhills)

- if we could have gone through to Bluff as planned, we were on track to complete in 26-27 days, under the 30 day target

If anyone else is contemplating doing the TA, I HIGHLY recommend it as the most satisfying and simple experience. Eat, bike, drink, eat, bike, drink, sleep, wash and repeat :-)
