Help the Aunties give families Christmas and Sweet Louise improve the quality of life for those living with incurable breast cancer
Auckland
Phil and Robyn, daughter and mother are shaving their heads for two charities they're passionate about.
With all the madness going on in the world, shaving our heads seems very minor in the grand scheme of things but for both Phil and Robyn it’s a symbol of so much more.
For Robyn, who is a volunteer coordinator with Sweet Louise in Northland, it’s a chance to challenge herself while helping out with this special charity. “It means I have to take a deep breath and jump in with both feet and just do it, plus it means I can raise some money for Sweet Louise”.
For Phil, who serves on the board of The Aunties it’s a very personal journey. Phil was bullied as a kid because of her birthmark and while those days are over, putting herself on display is going to take a lot of courage.
“I work with women who are pulling themselves out of domestic violence and who are setting their family on the path to safety and success and being able to help them along the way is really important to me. I met one woman who had cut her own hair off as a means of control and power over her own body and her own direction and I thought, if she can do it then so can I.”
Phil and Robyn are splitting any money they get between their two charities, Sweet Louise and The Aunties both small NZ charities, making a difference.
The Aunties provided Christmas for over 70 families a year (last year it cost in excess of $15,000) and we'd like to do a little bit to help support this. The Aunties is a charity close to both our hearts, with Phil being involved since the charity was formed, and a donor prior to this. Robyn also has a strong passion for seeing kids smile, and seeing families sigh with relief that things are sorted.
Sweet Louise is a charity that Robyn is involved in as a volunteer coordinator, something she has been doing for 10 years. Both Robyn and Phil have seen the difference this charity can make to a persons life, and with this would like to raise money to enable Sweet Louise to ensure delivery of strategies that will help both women and men with secondary breast cancer lead more positive lives.
