Nationwide
This traditional event, first run at Wellington College in 1975, was set up by Brien McCrea. In 1998 he moved to Grammar and introduced the event which was loved at once by the Grammar Community.
The 1000 miler is held every 4 years and many Grammar students and teachers take part. The event is done in shifts to allow for sleep and rest. Being a form 3, I get the easiest shift. These are the shifts: form 3's are from 8am - 4pm, form 4's and 5's are from 4pm - midnight, and the seniors (form 6 and 7) are from midnight - 8am.
A 1km lap around Auckland Grammar School is completed by each person who runs about 6km per 8 hour period. A required average pace of 3:45 per km is needed to finsh the 1000 miles in the 100 hour time period. Anyone can turn up during the day to help out and complete a km.
All of the funds that are raised will go towards 'The Key to Life' charitable trust. The 2018 New Zealander of the Year, Mike King runs this great charity. The charity supports mental health and has a long term goal of reaching a zero suicide rate in NZ. This is a tough goal so everyone's help is needed starting with you donating on my page to support this great cause.
I am part of AGS and I am taking part this year. I think this a real good oppurtunity to raise funds as it only happens every 4 years.
