    Happy New Year!

My Givealittle page has now closed for donations, with the total at $2,273. Although I didn't reach the revised $3,000 target, it's still $773 more than my original target, so I am very happy with how the appeal has gone. My sincere thanks to you all for your kind donations. I still intend to reach $3,000 towards helping kea with lead poisoning, which I will do by selling off some more of Sharlotte's effects. I think this page will remain visible, so I will update again when I hit $3,000.

    Best wishes

  • Another 'thank you', another video...

      28 November 2019

    Dear friends

I'm constantly in awe of the generosity of folks. Thank you for all your donations. I've sold some more of Sharlotte's gear for kea, and will continue to do so, to add to the total. This weekend I'm attending the Kea Summit in Te Anau - some great speakers lined up, can't wait!

Of course, lead poisoning is but one of many threats to our beloved kea. I've done a silly song/video to highlight another of the issues faced by kea.

    Thanks for visiting this page.

    Kia ora!

My sincere thanks to everyone who has donated to this page. It's been a while since my last update. We've got a bit to go before reaching my revised goal of $3,000 to fund treatment for two kea with lead poisoning, but I'm determined to make it. Deadline is 30th December, and I'll be doing all I can to hit $3k before then. At the end of this month I'm attending the Kea Convention 2019 in Te Anau, on the edge of Fiordland - really looking forward to that. Before that, finishing off the Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail with Sharlotte's family. We cycled a couple of stages of that 2 years ago while Sharlotte was recovering from chemo (see video link). We had a fantastic time doing that, and it will great to complete the trail in her memory.

    Thanks everyone!

Starting to work through the process of selling some of Sharlotte's belongings for this appeal. Not easy, but the right thing to do, I think.

No new videos yet, but found a nice picture of Sharlotte which I will add here. Nothing to do with kea, but a happy Sharlotte (and friend) nonetheless.

  • Thank you!

      19 September 2019

Dear friends. To everyone who has supported this page over the past 18 days, I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am to you for getting us over the original $1,500 target. I am astonished at your generosity. We've raised enough money for a kea to be treated for lead poisoning. That's a great thing - mission accomplished! For me, it means a lot to have done this in memory of Sharlotte - I think she would be very happy about it. I’m also really glad that we got across the line during Conservation Week 2019. It’s inspiring to be reminded of how much people - like you - care about conservation. Through Sharlotte, I’ve been lucky enough to know some of the amazing people who work for DOC. And recently I’ve seen at first hand the great work that the Kea Conservation Trust does to protect these beautiful birds. There are some great people out there! So, where to now? I’d like to continue, and see if we can raise enough for a second kea to be treated, so I’ve raised the goal to $3,000. Let’s see how we go.
Thanks again for your fantastic support.

Dear friends. It's only a week since I started this page and already we're nearly 2/3 of the way to the target. I'm so grateful for all your support - you're amazing! Some of you I know well, others not at all. I thank you all from the heart of my heart. Sharlotte was a very private person and not given to big displays of emotion, but I know she would be thrilled that this is happening. I've also started selling off some of her possessions to put towards the appeal - I think she'd approve. We'll get there.

  • A big 'thank you'

      4 September 2019

    Dear friends

I can't thank you enough for your incredibly kind donations. I'm absolutely thrilled that we're over a third of the way to the target after only a few days. I wasn't 100% sure if the target was achievable or not, but now I'm feeling that we might well get there. Thanks so much everyone!
