Kia ora, my names Atawhai Edwards

Recently I witnessed my friends' heartbreak as they farewelled their father. The impacts of Diabetes caused the loss of his eye sight, his leg and later his life.

Through reflection of the past and the many funerals I have attended, I realised that this awareness could prevent further suffering.

When the opportunity arose to help encourage Diabetes awareness, I took it.

As I reflect on my old life style choices it led me to being overweight. I lived a life of self-sabotage and suffering. I have now lost 50kgs.

The quality of life is important. Health and wellbeing is important. Being proactive in parenting is also important, however, helping our people realise their value is most important.

Stepping into this challenge to raise funds for DiabetesNZ and drive awareness is very needed right now. There are too many people making choices that would lead them to self-sabotage and suffering.

If I can help prevent it through spreading awareness, I'm all for it! Mauri ora.
