On 21st of November, I will be running the Queenstown Half Marathon to raise money for Rape Prevention Education.
Auckland
Sexual violence is an issue that I feel strongly about, and a massive problem in this country. 1/4 of all women and 1/8 of men in New Zealand are sexually assaulted in their lifetime. All too often, in addition to the trauma of the assault, these people feel the judgement of society raining down on them, as if they somehow asked or deserved to be made a victim.
That is why I have decided to raise money for Rape Prevention Education. This charity works to prevent sexual violence through education, particularly of young people, aiming to deconstruct the victim-blaming culture that has developed in New Zealand, and to foster healthy and respectful attitudes to sexuality. In addition, they provide advocacy and support for survivors of sexual violence.
To raise money I will be running the Queenstown Half Marathon in 3 weeks time. This is my first Half Marathon in 4 years so I'm a little nervous, but hopefully all the training I've put in over the past months will pay off.
Please join me in making a donation to Rape Prevention Education so we can build a country where everyone can live a life free from fear of sexual violence.
