Fundraising for Paekakariki Surf Lifeguards

Paekakariki, Wellington

My family are relatively new to Paekakariki Surf Lifesaving Club. My daughters Freya (7) and Poppy (5) joined little nippers last summer, and we've been welcomed with open arms to a fantastic group of people.

In 2022, the club building was demolished on structural grounds, and we've been sheltering behind shipping containers since. Whilst this does build character... a club building would cut a considerable amount of whinging from my little nippers!

I'm a cyclist for commuting purposes mainly. I've enjoyed a couple of bikepacking trips- but I'm no athlete. The prospect of a 300km day, followed by another 200km day is... daunting to say the least. I love an excuse to push myself, so here we are.

My hope is that by cycling a rather silly distance, I raise some awareness for the importance of the new club building, which is already underway- but with a substantial funding gap. I'm peddling to fill some of that gap!

Due to take place one weekend in August / September (weather permitting) I will depart my house in Raumati Beach, ride down to Paekakariki surf club for a cuppa, before continuing on to Titahi Bay, then Lyall Bay, Worser Bay, and finally Riversdale SLC. Day 1- 300km. I'll then ride back to Paekakariki SLC, before riding home. Day 2- 200km. Total- 500km. All un-assisted.

Any support is very much appreciated. Hope to see you on the way,

James
