There are lots of inspiring ecological renewal projects around Ōtautahi Christchurch (and nearby too). I want to go visit four of them, and report back!

We've achieved our goal with a day to spare! 29 November 2025

Today I did a solo trip to Te Pae o Ahuriri and the nearby reconstructed wetland project Whakaora Te Ahuriri. These lie close to Huritini Halswell River between Tai Tapu and Motukāra, alongside the Little River Rail Trail.

We've really enjoyed our tour; it's great how people in various communities across Ōtautahi have pulled together to work for "ecological renewal". And, looking at the various projects, each is different but all really cool!
