Riding around the South Island to raise awareness of live kidney donation.

  • Its finally over....

This page closes oon 31 March...

Well what can I say. A huge thank you to all those who donated to help me surpass my goal of $3000. It’s very humbling knowing my circumnavigating the South Island wasn’t in vain. It wasn’t the trip I had originally planned but I made the best of it. I learnt a lot about my self too. Determination. Self belief. Fear of failure. How far I could push myself day after day.

Thanks to those who supported me. Family and friends. And also strangers who paid for some of my lunches and made donations.

    And to

Kidney Health New Zealand. Enjoy the money I helped raise for you. It was a pleasure at to be able to support an organisation dear to my heart being a live donor myself.

After 15 days of riding I finally made it back to Bluff to a welcoming party of family and friends. It was tough but thoroughly enjoyable. A trip of a lifetime. In the process raising awareness of kidney health and live donation. Thanks to everyone who have donated.

Overcome with emotion when I made it to Picton in 6 days. FaceTimed Lisa my wife and had a wee cry as the enormity sank in. This is very real. Riding my heart out to raise awareness and money to Kidney Health NZ. A huge thank you to those who have donated.

  • Change of plans due to Cyclone.

      15 February 2023

It is with much disappointment that I must let you all know I have decided not to do the Tour Of Aotearoa. Current situation in the North Island has forced my hand. With the state of the roads, no power, no cell coverage, and respect for the people of the North Island I consider it disrespectful to go touring through their devastation. Food and water will be in short supply, accommodation will be needed for emergency shelter.

With this in mind, I have decided to circumnavigate the South Island, Bluff to Bluff, up the east coast and follow the TA route down the west coast. SO not all is lost.

I owe it to those who have sponsored me and supported me the past few months. I thank you all.

  • Tropical Cyclone

      10 February 2023

Well as you all are aware there is tropical cyclone heading to NZ, due to hit as I leave Cape Reinga....

This means there may be a change of plans.

I'll see how far north I can go by flights and shuttle buses if any, and plan a return home from there. This may mean a few detours or different start points, but I will try to navigate my way through the turmoil up north. I may not be a full Tour of Aotearoa, but it'll be close.

    Thanks for every ones support

  • Training update

      26 January 2023

    Hi Everyone...

Firstly thanks to all of you who have donated thus far. It does keep me motivated to keep going. I'm sure Kidney Health NZ are extemely grateful for all your donations.

Training is progressing well, and like the ride itself there have been some ups and downs, but overall I can see fitness and determination growing. I still have nerves, but that just means I will show this event the respect it deserves.

Thanks you all very much.....Ride On.
