The pads are distributed!
19 October 2024With much help from Konjera the hospital administrator at St Peter's Hospital, we have distributed period packs to 177 grateful girls, ranging from 12-14 years old, at 3 different schools on Likoma Island - Form 1s at Chipyela Community Day Secondary School and Bishop Biggers Secondary School, and Standard 8s at St Peter's Primary. Each pack contains 5 reusable pads, 3 pairs of underwear, body soap and laundry soap. Before distributing, we gave a talk to the girls about women's health, puberty, self defence, how to use the packs, hand hygiene and more. Each group of girls was so attentive and welcoming, and said they were very grateful for the packs - saying they will make a tangible difference for them. We have a few packs remaining that the hospital will distribute with the next time this project is done by a visiting New Zealand elective student because they are too few to provide for a whole year group. This project couldn't have been possible without each of your donations so we thank you again!
