Running to raise awareness of meningitis disease.
Auckland
December 2022 will be 5 years since I was married.
I married my partner of 8 years, Jamieka Mccarthy-Ngapera, at 3:00pm on the 9th of December 2017 on the Whangaparoa peninsula.
It was a beautiful, sunny day. The views were stunning and we were surrounded by our friends and family.
12 hours later Jamieka died suddenly of Meningococcal B, a bacterial, deadly infection linked to meningitis disease. She was 26 years old.
In December this year I will be running a marathon a day (split into two half marathons) for 7 days to raise awareness of this deadly disease.
Leading up to the event I will tell Jamieka's story. You can follow my progress through Instagram and my runs on Strava.
All money raised will go to the Meningitis Foundation.
The Meningitis Foundation Aotearoa New Zealand aims to provide all New Zealanders with access to quality information and resources to assist in the fight against meningitis in Aotearoa, New Zealand and the Pacific.
Seeking to promote the prevention, control and awareness of meningitis, the Foundation is involved in awareness-raising and education activities within the community with health and education professionals. The scope of the work is centred on communication and government advocacy, with a firm focus on improving access to vaccines in order to save lives.
Please consider supporting the work of the Foundation. It relies solely on the support and donations of members of the public and receives no government funding.
Thank you so much for your support.
